We had great plans for the weekend, starting with Friday where I was going to have lunch with her and read to her class, followed by a birthday visit from her Tata and Diddy, then a swimming birthday party at the Boys and Girls Club with her whole class and neighborhood friends. However, Mother Nature intervened, and Alli spent Friday doing this:
Obviously, the birthday party was off. I planned ahead enough to ask the neighborhood kids to walk over and to grab a cake mix, so the party was still on for Saturday - it was just a smaller scale than we planned. Then Ricks Bakery called and said that we could come get the cake, so fearless Ryan slid in to get it.
Brady, Victoria, Luke, Noah, Kohnly and Fletcher came over to sing, eat cake, and open presents. And then they spent the afternoon wrecking havoc in our playroom, which I am oh so grateful for.
Seriously, moving to this neighborhood is one of the better decisions Ryan and I have made. Our family has made lasting friendships, we have ample space for guests, and we have a pool we can walk to.
Sunday morning Alli was a little under the weather. I don't know if the disappointment of not having her usual birthday weekend was setting in, or if she just physically didn't feel well, but she was down. Cue some presents to get a smile on my favorite little face.
Nothing like a new Ninja Turtle shirt and the latest Skylanders game to cheer a girl up. Afterwards she and Ryan went to Brady's house to play in the snow and make gingerbread houses while I caught up on the blog and Riley napped.
That night we had one more little cake so we could sing and blow out candles on her actual big day.
It wasn't exactly what we had planned, but it was no less than a great celebration for a fantastic little nine year old!
